Revitalized Medvedev Wins First Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts
A resurgent the Russian player won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a challenging period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Cervara.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's initial title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of that year.
Success also indicates he has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle previously this season.
The player's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.
However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, supported by an improved service.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.
The pair traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.
He saved four initial break points in a close final set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.
Suitably, he earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
